Italian sausage is so delicious whether grilled, roasted, or added into a pasta dish.  There’s hot Italian, sweet Italian and mild Italian.  My favorite is the hot Italian turkey sausage.  It has a lot of flavor, a great add to any pasta dish, and about 65% less fat than pork sausages.  Most of them are gluten free too!

Swap out the gnocchi for pasta or tortellini for variation!

Ingredients

  • 1
    Gnocchi Package
  • 1 Tablespoon
    Olive Oil
  • 1 Pound
    Italian Sausage
  • 2
    Garlic, peeled, minced
  • 1
    Onion, Peeled, Diced, Large
  • 1 Cup
    Chicken Broth
  • 1
    Can of whole peeled tomatoes with basil, 28 oz
  • 1/2 Cup
    Heavy cream
  • 2 Cups
    Spinach, baby, fresh, washed
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Parmesan, grated (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare gnocchi as directed on package, set aside.

  2. Heat oil at medium heat. Remove sausage from casing and add into hot pan. Cook until meat is browned.

    Note: if you use pork sausage, you might need to drain meat after browning.

  3. Add onions and garlic. Cook about 5 minutes until onions are translucent.

  4. Crush whole tomatoes in a medium bowl. Add tomatoes into hot pan with sausage. Stir well and bring to a boil.

  5. Add broth. Stir well. Simmer for 15 minutes.

  6. Stir gnocchi into mix.

  7. Add spinach and allow to wilt.

  8. Add heavy cream and Parmesan.

    Season with salt and pepper as desired.

  9. Once all the ingredients have heated through. Remove from heat.

  10. Serve while hot. Enjoy!

    Sprinkle with cheese if desired (optional)
