Have you ever used turmeric in your cooking? It can make your home-cooked dish a beautiful yellow color and costs way less than saffron. I wouldn’t say it replaces saffron but it’s worth starting to add into your recipes. An easy substitute is 1/4 teaspoon of saffron = 1/8 teaspoon of turmeric. If you want to add a smoky, sweet flavor, than add another 1/2 teaspoon of Hungarian paprika to the turmeric substitute.
Still not a believer in switching over to turmeric or using turmeric? What if I said the health benefits range from taming heartburn, helping with an upset stomach, delaying diabetes, and fighting cancer! Please note that medical studies haven’t yet confirm that this is true but it sure is worth a try. Sometimes it’s worth reading into something like this.
